What does FSC wood mean?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non for-profit organization who are considered the gold standard of sustainability of wooden products, including our toys.

Their goal is to protect natural resources by promoting environmentally sustainable, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.

The forests are inspected and certified against the FSC’s 10 Principles of Forest Stewardship. Inspections are undertaken by independent organizations that are accredited by the FSC. For a forest to be given FSC certification, it must be well taken care of in an “environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable manner.”

In a nutshell FSC certified wood is wood that has been harvested sustainably. You can see in some of our marketing that the wood our products are made of is FSC certified.

The FSC logo. When you see the FSC logo on a label or product, you can buy forest or wooden products with confidence that you are helping to ensure our forests are alive for generations to come. Check out some examples of FSC wood on our bead mazes here.
